Virat Kohli Retirement: BCCI Didn’t Ask Him to Continue

Break10 Web Desk: In a significant development for Indian cricket, Virat Kohli officially announced his retirement from Test cricket today, concluding a remarkable 14-year career in the longest format of the game. The 36-year-old cricketer shared his decision via Instagram, expressing deep gratitude for his journey and the support he received throughout his tenure.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged Kohli’s decision and emphasizing their respect for his choice. Reports suggest that BCCI did not urge Kohli to reconsider his decision.

“The BCCI does not request anyone. A player’s decision is his personal choice. We don’t interfere in it,” a source told Dainik Jagran about the Virat Kohli retirement issue. Kohli was reportedly told that he doesn’t fit in the Test team anymore. The same message was sent out to former captain Rohit Sharma at a meeting on 7 May in Mumbai.

Kohli has an enviable Test record in the history of the game. He played 123 matches, scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. As a captain, he led India in 68 Tests, securing 40 victories, the most by any Indian skipper, and guided the team to two World Test Championship finals.
