Strong Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack Soon, Warns Rajnath Singh

Break10 Web Desk: In the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 32 civilians and injured over 20 others, defence minister Rajnath Singh has issued a stern warning, promising a swift and decisive response against the perpetrators.

The attack, worst since the 2019 Pulwama incident, was carried out by militants affiliated with The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. The militants targeted tourists in the Baisaran Valley on 22 April. Among the victims were 24 Indian tourists, two locals from Jammu and Kashmir, and two foreign nationals from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. The casualties also included a 26-year-old Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official.

Addressing the nation today, Singh condemned the attack as an “act of cowardice” and emphasised that the perpetrators and their supporters would face severe consequences. He highlighted that Indian security forces have launched extensive operations across the region, detaining numerous suspects and intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist networks.

Prime minister Narendra Modi, who cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia in response to the attack, convened a high-level security meeting in New Delhi. The government has since increased security measures in the region and is working closely with international partners to address the threat of cross-border terrorism.

The Pahalgam terror attack has drawn widespread condemnation from global leaders and has reignited concerns over regional security and the ongoing challenges in combating terrorism. As India mourns the loss of innocent lives, the government’s resolve to take decisive action against terrorism remains unwavering.
