At Least 26 Tourists Killed in Pahalgam Terror Attack
Break10 Web Desk: At least 26 tourists were killed and several others injured when gunmen opened fire at Baisaran meadow near the resort town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday afternoon, in what is probably the deadliest terror attack in recent times.
The assault occurred around 1:00pm at Baisaran, a scenic meadow accessible only by foot or pony, located approximately 5km from Pahalgam. Eyewitnesses report that the attackers descended from nearby forests and indiscriminately fired upon a group of Indian tourists, resulting in panic and chaos. The remote location posed challenges for immediate evacuation but local residents and security forces assisted in transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Initial reports indicate varying numbers of casualties. While some sources reported at least five deaths and multiple injuries, others later confirmed that at least 26 civilians were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, with several more injured. The exact number of casualties may vary as investigations continue.

Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, is known for its scenic beauty and is also the starting point for the annual Amarnath Yatra. Despite a decline in militant activities in recent years, the region has experienced sporadic incidents of violence. The attack occurred during a period of increased tourism, with many visitors in the area.
Security forces have launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators and a helpline has been established to assist affected tourists. The area remains cordoned off as investigations continue.
