Abhijeet Slams AR Rahman Over ‘Technology Overuse’ in Music
Break10 Web Desk: Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has stirred a fresh controversy in the Indian music industry by criticizing Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman for what he calls an “overuse of technology” in modern music production.
Speaking to the media recently, Abhijeet expressed concern over the direction in which the music industry is headed, singling out Rahman’s compositions as emblematic of what he described as an overdependence on digital enhancements.
“Music today is losing its soul,” Abhijeet said. “Everything is computerised. There’s autotune, digital layering, and too much technical manipulation. AR Rahman is a genius, no doubt, but even he has fallen into the trap of overusing technology. Where is the raw emotion, the human voice?”

The comments have gone viral. While some fans supported Abhijeet’s views, praising his advocacy for traditional and ‘pure’ musicality, others rushed to Rahman’s defence, highlighting his contributions in bringing Indian music to a global stage.
AR Rahman has not yet officially responded to the criticism, but sources close to the composer suggest he remains unbothered, continuing work on several international projects, including a Broadway musical and a collaboration with global artists.
This is not the first time Abhijeet has made headlines for outspoken remarks. Known for his candid and often controversial opinions, he has previously criticised various trends in Hindi film music, including the rise of remixes and the marginalization of veteran singers.
